The obnoxious amounts of email that is dropped in my mailbox are extremely overwhelming.
Knowing that I get overwhelmed on a regular basis all of the emails in my inbox is ridiculous. I start strong then get overwhelmed and quit. This is not allowed to happen with this business so I am taking a step back this weekend and working on it. This is going to be my zen weekend. It is going to be spent working on goal setting/rearranging and getting priorities in order. This weekend is all about me and the direction that my life is going in but that is another post. I chose to start with the outrageous amounts of email that I had in my inboxes.
Notice the word had in the previous sentence. I have three email accounts; one for business, one for learning, and one for just general catch-all stuff. I had over 4,000 emails just sitting there between all three of them. Some had been read, most had not. I know that was a huge source of overwhelm for me.
- I’ve got to read it all!
- I’ll get back to it.
- I don’t want to miss out on anything.
Does any of that sound familiar to you? I took the plunge and just deleted it all. As I get emails from here on I will either put them in the folder they belong in or I will unsubscribe from the mailing list. Email, in general, has gotten out of hand. I am tired of my mailbox being inundated constantly. I know this is how business is done now but come on. I don’t need to see you in my inbox three to four times a day. It’s just too much.
That is part of the reason I do not have an email list. I don’t send out newsletters. At least not at this time. There is a good possibility that I may in the future but I’m trying to figure out how to do it and not be annoying. There is the thing about me not being a follower that probably plays a huge part in this. I just have a really hard time jumping on any bandwagon that is popular at any point in time.
Why? You ask. I’ll tell you. It just seems fake to me. I know having an email list is the thing to do but I just can’t force myself to do it. Does anyone do their own thing anymore? Is it possible to run a successful business and have a blog without jumping into everyone’s space ten times a day?
